On last night’s Rachel Maddow show, she pointed out a possible reason the governor of Wisconsin didn’t cut the benefits of the police and firefighter unions. They supported his run for governor.
It is interesting to note that right wing pundits (and some elected officials) are talking about how public workers are making so much money and earning more than their private sector counterparts. Their claim seems odd because I’ve not noticed public workers on the Forbes list of the richest people in America.
So, is this really about budget cuts or politics? If the former, then why are the unions that supported the governor not facing drastic cuts in their benefits? If the latter, well, that explains why the Republicans are demonizing public workers.
